STEM with Robotics

Our Virtual Robotics Program encourages creativity and problem solving for all skill levels. This week-long program can be completed by an independent learner or with assistance from someone in the home. We will provide the curriculum, tools and support to provide hands-on learning beyond the 5 days of this experience.

Keya is  student-centered STEM/STEAM educator with 20 years of professional tutoring experience and 16 years of teaching experience. However, her greatest title is a mother to a brilliant neuro typical (ASD/SPD) daughter. As her mother, she became an advocate for STEM’STEAM access for ALL learners. In 2019, Keya was named Anne Arundel County (MD), Teacher of the Year, as well as the Washington Post Independent School Teacher of the Year. She coaches robotics and animation teams and have taken 3 teams to the Vex Robotics World Championship. Being fluent in ASL allows her to offer STEM/STEAM enrichment to students who are deaf, hearing compared or nonverbal. 


What will you learn?


Participants will explore coding and robotics concepts and how they relate to the real world, Using Vex VR, learners will gain an understanding of the robotics design process. Each day, they will be exposed to computer science and engineering terminology.

Additionally, this program will introduce learners to programming concepts and the programming language used by Vex. Learners will participate in daily coding sprints, learn how sensors are used in autonomous driving, use loops to streamline code and collaborate with other campers in group programming challenges.

Required Materials


Mac or PC computer with a mouse. Mobile phones, tablets and Chromebooks will not work. 

Writing materials such as paper, pens, pencils and a notebook. 

Vaild email account used to register for Vex VR. You can use one from a parent or caregiver. 

Internet connection.
